FAQ

HOW CAN I PAY FOR MY ITEMS?

We accept credit cards, Google Pay, Apple Pay, PayPal and After Pay.

HOW DO I KNOW SILL AND SAGE IS LEGITIMATE?

Unfortunately, there is a scam website with a very similar name operating out of the US. We, however, are a true-blue small Australian business and pride ourselves on our customer service, quality products and excellent communication. We do not drop ship from other countries and we only ship within Australia. All of our product reviews are genuine. All of the products on our website are available and in stock in our warehouse. Of course, we are not perfect, and we do occasionally have items broken in transit, or products with minor flaws, but we respond quickly and reasonably to any queries.

HOW TO LOOK AFTER MY SILL AND SAGE ITEMS?

Always handle our pots with care, as with all ceramics, our items are breakable. Gravity is the arch enemy of ceramics! Ceramics are fragile, so be gentle!

All wall art should be hung correctly and kept out of the harsh elements to prolong the quality. To remove dirt and dust, apply a wet cloth with light pressure, especially as most of our designs are hand-painted. If a cleaning liquid is used, make sure it is non-abrasive or corrosive bleach based. We use dish soap. Slimy and old flowers will stain surfaces so take care removing them.

Our range of metal garden art is hand finished and hand painted. We suggest a coat of clear polyurethane spray in matt or gloss finish to protect the metal and colours of the painted finish from the Australian weather.

CAN I FILL MY PLANTER WITH REAL PLANTS AND WATER THEM?

Our planters hold water well, but not forever. Even when sealed on the interior, when water remains inside the vessel for an extended period, the inside of the vessel may become porous and may cause leakage. To avoid watermarks on furniture or other surfaces, we recommend placing a saucer or coaster underneath the vessel. Some of our planters come with saucers which is great! Between display times its optimal to let the vessel dry completely before re-filling with water.

For some of our items we provide a drainage hole and supply a fitting plug. As our items are handmade, the hole size will vary from item to item, therefore we cannot guarantee the plug supplied will be 100% water tight.

The majority of our pots will fit a standard size plastic grow pot. This makes watering easy - just remove the plastic grow pot, water the plant in the sink, allow to drain completely and then replace in the ceramic pot. This avoids water sitting in the planter and damaging the ceramic, plus avoids root rot from over watering.

CAN MY ITEM BE DISPLAYED OUTSIDE?

Yes! Sill and Sage loves that we can offer you a "Gardenware" range which is great for outdoors, along with some items that can be hung/displayed in shaded outdoor areas. Although there are some things to remember!

  • When exposed to direct sunlight over an extended period, the colours of our products may fade. This is a normal effect that the sun has and is not related to the quality of the product. We suggest a coat of clear polyurethane spray in matt or gloss finish to protect the metal and colours of the painted finish from the Australian weather.
  • Ceramics left outside in elements will inevitably crack as variations between hot and cold temperatures can crack the glaze. We suggest keeping them undercover, or indoors. However, if you are happy with the weathered look of some fading and some small cracks, our pots are happy outdoors!
  • The rope we use on some of our hanging items will begin to perish if subjected to all the harsh elements Mother Nature throws at us. We suggest displaying these items indoors to enjoy them forever, or in a shaded section of your garden. When planting these beauties out, keep the soil under the rope line to prevent any deterioration as well!

WILL MY CERAMIC CREATE SCRATCH MARKS?

This is highly unlikely although proper care prevents this from happening. When moving them from one spot to another, lift them, don’t pull or push them. This will avoid scratching delicate surfaces. Another great idea is placing them on top of stacked books to create levels in your home and avoid any scratches! Use a saucer if applicable. Some of our pots come with small rubber pads underneath to protect surfaces.

WHY IS THERE A SLIGHT DIFFERENCE IN COLOUR/PATTERN ON MY ITEM?

Our items are uniquely imperfect. They are often hand painted and hand finished, which we love as it adds to the unique character. This means you accept (and, we hope, appreciate) when they come with a little imperfection or look slightly different from the photo on the website.

HOW CAN I PREVENT RUST ON MY GARDENWARE?

To prevent rusting, we advise spraying any metal kept in the elements with a lanolin based anti-rust lubricant, which can be purchased from your local hardware store. We also recommend spraying any moving parts eg windmills, with lubricant to keep the moving parts rust free. Metal art can also be coated with varnish to protect it. A lot of our products have a naturally rusty look which weathers well. We suggest a coat of clear polyurethane spray in matt or gloss finish to protect the metal and colours of the painted finish from the Australian weather.
